OPENING EVENT PORTO ARABIA
Designing the opening event of an artificial island.
M&O was asked to cooperate with fischerAppelt, a German Event agency with a branch in Qatar, to introduce an outstanding artificial island to the world: The Pearl Qatar.
The agencies were asked to create a concept for an opening event carried by a unique design for a brand soon to be on everyone's lip and covered by international media. The whole execution of the event was based on a fictitious story; an Arabian fairytale created by M&O, which had to be meticulously planned and carried out to transport the atmosphere akin to Arabian Nights - yet just during some few hours. Cooperating with leading entertainment experts to overcome the technical challenges became crucial, which led M&O to hire Mark Fisher, the stage designer of the Beijing Olympic Games, and Brian Burke, artistic director of Le Rêve in Las Vegas, to plan and perform the complex projections and water stages for the islands towers. Even H.H. the Emir himself had a main role within the script by acting as the narrator of the fairytale. The strong cooperation between M&O and fischerAppelt enabled the partners to make the client’s vision come true and to deliver a concept of the very special kind: a large-scale opening ceremony of superlatives not to forget.
